Class 1 (MELT)

1

Class 1 License Required

On either side of this page are several types of trailers a Truck Driver could pull with the same tractor (truck). What is different is that some of the tractors require a component called a Power take-Off (PTO) to power the trailer.

2

3

To load or unload the trailer this PTO is used to power air or hydraulic pumps, or other units like ramps etc. Trucking companies that have special systems for loading and unloading, teach their drivers how to operate them.

4

5

Some different driving techniques are required for some of these trucks and trailers depending on what type they are. At our school we discuss with our students various conditions that could arise, and that with the proper training from the new company, they will be able to operate their trucks efficiently and safely.

6

7

We encourage our students to become professionals in their Driving Habits. This not only teaches them to drive safely but eliminates most of the potential for damage.

8

9

There are
almost unlimited configurations of tractors and trailers, and those that have interest in continuing to expand their capabilities, have the greatest opportunities to advance.

It is pointed out continually at our school, that Truck Driving is a profession, and those who wish to pursue higher levels can do so.
