Master the air system first.
How an air brake system works, how to inspect it and how to check and adjust pushrod travel. Air brakes are built into Class 1 MELT, and you can test on-site with our certified assessment officer.
Check everything before you roll.
The NSC 13 pre-trip, component by component. Learn the difference between a minor defect and a major one that puts the truck out of service, with hours spent at the vehicle.
Backing, coupling, tight spaces.
Straight-line, offset and alley-dock backing. Coupling and uncoupling, sliding the fifth wheel and trailer axles, and chaining up, a skill every B.C. driver needs.

Highway and mountain driving is part of B.C.'s MELT curriculum. We train on real mountain highway, including the Coquihalla, so your first long descent happens beside an instructor.

Class 1 (MELT)
Mandatory Entry-Level Training for a Class 1 commercial licence — pre-trip inspection, coupling and uncoupling, backing manoeuvres, and trailer handling, taught on real tractor-trailers.
Also covers Mountain Driving Training, Manual Transmission Training, Class 1 Automatic Transmission Training, and full MELT certification.

For straight trucks with air brakes — dump trucks, hydro trucks, construction and municipal vehicles. Covers pre-trip inspection and manual brake adjustment. A solid choice if you want work that keeps you closer to home.

Why aren’t your prices listed on the website?
Because a single number would be misleading for most people reading it — we’d rather give you an accurate figure by phone.
Is MELT mandatory for a Class 1 licence in BC?
Yes, since October 2021, for anyone applying for a first B.C. Class 1 licence, with no sector-specific exemptions.
Does Tricon guarantee me a job after training?
No school controls a carrier’s hiring decision — what we do is make you employable and put you in front of people who hire.
Which Tricon location should I choose?
Pick whichever yard is closer to drive to regularly — Surrey or Langley run the exact same programs.
