Vancouver is the biggest, most competitive driving-school market in the province — a search for "driving school Vancouver" turns up dozens of options. Most of them teach car lessons. Far fewer offer full commercial training — Class 1 MELT, Class 3 and air brake — alongside those car lessons, under one roof, with the same instructors. That's the gap Tricon fills for Vancouver residents: we don't have a campus inside the city itself, so Vancouver students train at our Surrey yard — roughly 30–40 minutes away depending on which part of the city you're coming from.
It's the same instructors, the same ICBC-approved MELT curriculum, and the same trucks that Surrey and Langley students use — nothing about training out of Surrey is a "lesser" version of Tricon. For a licence that opens up real trucking, delivery and construction work, most students tell us the drive is a small price to pay for training done properly.

The drive from Vancouver isn't a single number — it depends heavily on which part of the city you're starting from and the time of day. Most students see roughly 30–40 minutes via Highway 99 or the Pattullo/Alex Fraser corridor; downtown and east-side starts tend to run toward the shorter end, while trips from the far west side or during peak traffic can run longer. If you're weighing whether the commute is worth it, ask any current Vancouver student: it's a manageable trip for a licence that opens up real trucking, construction and delivery work.

Why would I train outside Vancouver instead of in the city?
Honestly, mostly space — commercial truck training needs a real yard to manoeuvre in, and that's easier to run just outside the downtown core. In exchange, Vancouver students get the same small classes, ICBC-approved MELT curriculum and instructor attention as everyone else, and most tell us the drive to Surrey is a small trade-off for training done properly.
