What you're preparing for
To get your Class 7L learner's licence you need to turn 16, pass a vision screening, and get 40 out of 50 on a multiple-choice knowledge test. That test is the one this page is built for.
Everything on it comes from ICBC's Learn to Drive Smart guide — that one booklet is the entire syllabus. The test can be taken online or at a driver licensing office, it's not open book, and it's offered in eleven languages. ICBC also runs its own free practice test, and you should take both.
It's harder than people expect
ICBC says so itself. A lot of the questions are written to test whether you understand a rule rather than whether you've memorised a number — which means skim-reading the guide the night before is how people end up back a week later.

Take the practice test
This one matches the real test exactly: 50 questions, 40 to pass, 45 minutes. Our bank is only slightly larger than the test itself, so a second attempt will show you most of the same questions — but in a new order, with the answers reshuffled, which is enough to stop you passing on muscle memory rather than knowledge. Take ICBC's own practice test alongside this one for a genuinely different question set.

Understand, don't memorise
Many questions are written to check that you'd make the right decision, not that you've learned a fact. Ask yourself why a rule exists.

Take ICBC's practice test as well
It has close to 200 questions in rotation. Between theirs and ours you'll have seen the ground covered from two directions.

How many questions do I need to get right?
40 out of 50. The test is multiple choice and is available online or at any ICBC driver licensing location.
How old do I have to be?
16. If you're under 19 you'll also need consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Can I take the real test online?
Yes, ICBC offers the knowledge test online as well as in-office, though in some parts of the province it's only offered as a written test. Check icbc.com for what applies where you are.
What if I fail?
There's a seven-day wait before you can retake a knowledge test. Use the week.
Are these the real ICBC questions?
No. These are practice questions written by Tricon instructors from the current ICBC guide. They are not ICBC's own test questions, and passing here is not a guarantee of passing at the licensing office.
