Which test do you need?
British Columbia has more than one written test, and which ones you sit depends on the licence you're after. This is the short version.
- Class 1. A 60-question knowledge test with 48 to pass in 75 minutes, plus a road signs test at the same visit, before ICBC issues your learner's licence. The air brake questions are built into that 60 — there is no separate air brake exam for you.
- Class 3 (or 2 or 4). A 35-question knowledge test with 28 to pass in 45 minutes, plus the road signs test. Air brakes are not folded in: you take the air brake test separately for the Code 15 endorsement.
- Air brake endorsement on its own (Code 15). A 25-question knowledge test with 20 to pass in 45 minutes, plus a practical air brake pre-trip inspection on a real vehicle. No road test.
- Class 7L, on the way to a Class 5. One 50-question knowledge test, 40 right to pass, in 45 minutes. Signs are part of it rather than a separate paper.

How these work
Each one runs as an exam simulation: one question at a time, no feedback until you submit, and a skip option for anything you want to come back to — the same shape as the real thing. When you submit you get your score, a breakdown of which topics let you down, and the reasoning behind every single question, right or wrong.
The question order and the answer order are reshuffled on every attempt. Three of the four tests also draw a fresh subset from a larger bank, so a second run genuinely is a second run; the Class 7L test is the exception, because it runs the full 50 to match the real exam. Nothing is submitted anywhere — your best score is kept in your own browser and nowhere else.

Which practice test do I need?
If you're working toward a Class 1 or Class 3 licence, take the Class 1 & 3 test — it includes the air brake questions, because in B.C. they're on the same paper. If you only need the Code 15 air brake endorsement added to a licence you already hold, take the air brake test. If you're a new driver going for your L, take the Class 7L test.
Are these ICBC's real test questions?
No. These are practice questions written by Tricon instructors from the current ICBC guide. They are not ICBC's own test questions, and passing here is not a guarantee of passing at the licensing office. We wrote them from the current editions of ICBC's guides so the facts behind them are right.
Do I need to sign up or pay?
Neither. Nothing is stored on a server and nothing is emailed to you. Your best score is kept in your own browser so you can see whether you're improving.
Can I use these on my phone?
Yes. They're built to work on a phone, which is where most people end up revising.
What is the pass mark on an ICBC knowledge test?
80% on all of them. What changes is the length: 60 questions for Class 1 (48 to pass), 35 for Class 2, 3 or 4 (28 to pass), 25 for the air brake test (20 to pass) and 50 for the passenger vehicle test (40 to pass).
How often are the questions updated?
We review them against the current ICBC guides and update when the guides or the rules change. Anything time-sensitive should still be double-checked against icbc.com.
